Wedding Trend: Mini Wedding Dresses — And Their Unique Designers

This trend may be small, but it makes quite the statement. We’re talking about the mini wedding dress! After 2020, with the rise in elopements and informal weddings, we began to see a surge in popularity for the mini wedding dress — and we’re continuing to see brides go bold with this leg-baring statement dress.

The trend is commonly seen in the elopement or micro-wedding experience, and even as a second dress for the reception or celebration at a later time. It packs a big fashion punch and adds a touch of fun to any wedding day!

MINI WEDDING DRESS STYLES & DESIGNERS

Let’s take a look at some of our favorite mini wedding dresses bold brides are loving — and some of the designers who are forging their own path to make these unique designs.

Puffed Sleeves and Silk Organza Details from Odylyne: The Ceremony

This magical little wedding dress is taking Instagram by storm and we can see why. It’s called the Mini Caspian and is from designer Stephanie White of Odylyne: The Ceremony. From puffed sleeves to the silk organza that looks as romantic as it is cozy, there’s nothing missing from this ethereal creation.

Alex Perry Putting the Mini in Minimalist Bridal Wear

Alex Perry is noted for sharp, sculpted silhouettes with internal corsetry that delights the modern bride who isn’t afraid to let the simple detailing take center stage.

A Not-So-Short Mini by Story of My Dress

This mini wedding dress, dubbed Shoreditch, is both short and long with a sheer overlay and puffed sleeves from designer Cara at Story of My Dress in the U.K. She has created a series of minis for the new season in a collection called Love in the City.

A Lace Mini Dress Fit for a Rock-and-Roll Bride from Rime Arodaky

Speaking of not-so-short minis with overlays or skirted additions, here’s another style we’re seeing more of for this year. The French design house of Rime Arodaky specializes in creating unique gowns for a more rock-and-roll-style bride. Their Aiden dress (seen below) has a removable train and shimmering tulle. They say it’s perfect to dance till you drop!

Comfort, Drama, and a Cathedral Veil from Designer Harriette Gordon

Australian wedding gown designer, Harriette Gordon is the creative genius behind this comfortable, yet dramatic mini wedding dress. This satin mini organza piece, with the stunning bow down the back, was the perfect effortless touch for this bride’s micro-wedding. (P.S. It also comes in powder blue and black.) And we can’t get enough of the two-tier ruched tulle veil.

Speaking of cathedral veils with short dresses, Duch bridal gown design house Atelier Edwin Oudshoorn created this lace wedding dress complete with a jaw-dropping veil combination for a styled elopement shoot.

Inspired Blazer Combination by Fern & Moon

What’s better than a short wedding dress by itself? A short wedding dress with a blazer and veil combination. Canadian design house Fern & Moon specializes in bodysuit and skirt combinations for a wedding dress that brides will wear again. Ultimately, brides can pick and choose from a handful of silhouettes to create something that is uniquely them.

As an example of the versatility in their mix and match designs, here is a different take on the same bodysuit structure. The model is wearing Fern & Moon’s Rowen bodysuit, Portia Mini, and Margaret overskirt.⠀⠀

Structure and the Statement Bow from Jessica Bennett

A sleek and minimal gown expertly cut in contemporary fabrics. That’s U.K.-based bridal gown designer, Jessica Bennett‘s aesthetic. In her mini Celina dress, the statement bow is just the touch of drama that elevates the design to something extra special.

While we’re on the topic of statement bows, we can’t leave out this lovely mini wedding dress from Rime Arodarky

SECOND WEDDING DRESSES ARE GOING SHORT

Part of this trend, as we said, is brides choosing a mini wedding dress as a second wedding gown for their reception or follow-up celebration.

Here’s one example of a bride wearing her mother’s wedding dress for the first-look and ceremony — then changing into a stunning short dress for the party!

We can’t wait to see what other iterations of the mini wedding dress the industry’s talented designers come up with next!
